And The Category Is… ‘KIKI’, An Immersion in the Ballroom Scene
‘KIKI’ follows seven members of the New York City Kiki scene over the course of four years. The movie shows them perform the house down boots at balls, telling us about their personal journeys, often riddled with homelessness, illness and prejudice. For its honesty, immersion and respect of the Ballroom culture, ‘KIKI’ has received support from the Ballroom community.
‘KIKI’ is a rare invitation to the Kiki scene, a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth-of-color for whom voguing is more than just dancing. The scene has evolved into an important (and ever-growing) organization with governing rules, leaders and teams.
The documentary is a collaboration of the Kiki community leader and activist, Twiggy Pucci Garcon, and Swedish filmmaker, Sara Jordenö. Watch the trailer down below!
