‘Neverland’, the Iconic Music Video by Queer Korean Pop Star Holland
Holland is one of the first openly LGBTQIA+ pop stars in Korea. His 2018 debut video ‘Neverland’, which features a gay kiss, was an instant hit and has 14M views on YouTube.
Holland is a fierce LGBTQ+ advocate. So much so that his stage name is a nod to the Netherlands, the first country to legalise same-sex marriage in 2001. After being told by a label that being openly gay could hurt his image, he decided to be the change he wanted to see.
‘It’s still not common in Korean society to openly accept LGBTQ+ individuals or the community, so I hope there are more opportunities to talk openly about homosexuality in the future. I believe my music is playing a role in broadening this conversation’.
