Meet Kimmortal, The Filipinx Healer Who Does Claymation
If you have you ever wondered how to join a big circle of trans femme Filipinx healers all the way in Canada, they are certainly the right person to contact! As the self-described member of the sad femme hours club, Kimmortal is a soulful artivist who raps, sings, acts, writes, and, get this, does claymation (and if like us, you are not sure what this means, it is the art of making movies out of clay figures. How awesome is that!).
Based in Vancouver, on the unceded Coast Salish territories, Kimmortal released a superb debut album mixing alt-rap, soul and electronic influences. ‘X marks the Swirl’ incorporates sound from the region and words straight from Kimmortal’s fantastic brains. It is a way for them to honour their ancestors and recapture their struggle for the land in a modern setting. The album is composed of spoken word, rap, and field recordings of water that Kim created over a five year process.
On top of that, they also released a new music video, just a few months ago. If you are as curious as us, you can check out the video down below!
