On Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirits’ Disappearances
Created at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it provides an outlet for women who document their lives during this unprecedented period. Through their lens, they share a glimpse into the lives of women all over the world.
June’s theme was PROTECTION and one of the featured artists on their Instagram was Keri Oberly. Her powerful photograph instantly caught our attention. It was taken on National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit. It captures a mother-daughter duo, Jody Potts and Quannah Chasinghorse, activists and proud indigenous women, protesting against the disappearances of their sisters.
To better understand the importance of their message, we will leave you with one statistic: indigenous women face murder rates at 10 times the national average.
