Alizée Quinche's Fusion of Art, Science and Initmacy
Alizée was first introduced to photography by her father's amateur activities. However, it was when she started using a Rolleiflex camera that her love for the art form truly blossomed. This particular camera, which used medium format film, allowed her to tell stories through her photography. Initially, her focus was on documenting her environment and her family relationships. A deep curiosity for human relationships and consciousness and a sense of intimacy marked her early photographic works. At the age of 88, her grandmother's dedication to farm life inspired Alizée to embark on a documentary project that explored the essence of resilience and familial bonds.
She pursued formal education in photography which provided her with a platform to expand her artistic horizons. However, she realized that the intense focus on project consumption and production during her studies often overshadowed the nurturing of personal well-being. In hindsight, she came to appreciate the symbiotic relationship between art and humanity. Upon graduation, Alizée rejected the confines of traditional photographic practices and ventured into performance art, installation, and soundscapes. She collaborated with others and embarked on experimental endeavors to redefine the boundaries of artistic expression and audience engagement.
The performance titled "Between U and Me" is a perfect example of the artist's interest in the intersection of biology, technology, and human interaction. The artist's close relationship with bacterial cultures forms the basis of the performance, which explores the mutually beneficial relationship between humans and microbial entities. By translating electrical currents into soundscapes, the artist creates a harmonious interplay between organic and technological elements, taking the audience on a journey of discovery and connection through their senses.
Alizée is an artist who celebrates intimacy and vulnerability through her work. She seeks to explore the complexities of human connection, sexuality, and consciousness. For example, in her work "I Blossom at Night," which will be presented during Lovely Autonomy art show, she creates an abstract representation of her own vaginal flora. In "Between U and Me," she creates interactive experiences, inviting audiences to confront their perceptions of themselves and others. By exploring the human body and experience, Alizée challenges societal norms, blurs the boundaries between art forms, and fosters genuine connections with her audience.
